CBSE New Circular on 75% Attendance Rule for Board Exams - 4 August, 2025
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a new circular dated 4 August 2025 to remind all schools, students, and parents about the mandatory attendance requirement for students of Class X and Class XII who will be appearing for the 2025–2026 Board Examinations.
Friends, here in this you will find key features of the Circular:Let's begin....
1. Minimum 75% Attendance is Mandatory
- As per CBSE Examination Bye-Laws (Rule 13 & 14), students must have at least 75% attendance in the academic year to be eligible for board exams.
- Without meeting this attendance, students cannot appear for the CBSE Class 10 or Class 12 board examinations.
2. 25% Attendance Relaxation in Special Cases:
CBSE may give relaxation in attendance (down to 50%) only in genuine and serious cases such as:
- Medical emergencies (with valid medical proof)
- Participation in national or international sports events
- Other serious reasons (with proper supporting documents)
3. Mandatory Awareness for Students & Parents:
- Schools must inform all students and parents about the 75% attendance rule and the consequences of failing to meet it.
- Any absence must be supported by a written leave application and, in case of medical leave, valid medical documents.
- Leave taken without a written request will be treated as unauthorized absence.
4. Strict Leave Procedures:
- Medical Leave: Students must immediately submit a leave application with medical proof.
- Other Reasons: Leave must be requested in writing with a valid reason.
- CBSE may conduct sudden inspections, and if records show irregular attendance without proper documents, students will be treated as non-attending/dummy candidates.
- Such students will not be allowed to appear in the Board Exams.
- What This Means for Students and Parents
- Track attendance regularly to ensure it does not fall below 75%.
- Submit leave applications on time with proper documents.
- Avoid taking unnecessary leave, especially without informing the school in writing.
- If there is a genuine reason for low attendance, keep all records and proofs ready for submission to the school and CBSE.
CBSE has been introducing several changes this year for the Academic Year 2025-2026, to improve the examination process. One of the biggest changes is the introduction of the CBSE “Twice a Year” Board Exam system. Friends, let's understand 'What is the role of of students and parents?'
This circular is a reminder to keep a close watch on attendance throughout the year so that it never drops below 75%. Any time a student needs to take leave, it should be applied for in advance and supported with proper documents, especially in the case of medical issues. Unnecessary leave should be avoided, and the school must always be informed in writing about any absence. If there is a genuine reason for low attendance, all relevant records and proofs should be kept safely, as they may need to be submitted to the school or CBSE for approval.
