Friends, what is a letter?
Letter writing is the most important component of the English language.
Whether you are at a state-level school or the college level, working or preparing for any competitive examinations, this post will always be helpful to you. In English examinations, it is one topic that helps in a high scores.
What is letter writing?
Friends, letter writing is a composition in a formal or informal way to deliver to the receiver.
Types of the letter:
Formal; It's written for official purposes.
Informal; it is a return to relatives and friends, family members. (Nowadays, no one writes informal letters because of technology, but we have to study it for examination purposes)
Let's begin by understanding Formal Letter types:
- Enquiry letter
- Leave application
- Job application
- Placing an order
- Letter to the editor
While writing, a later Format plays a very important role.
Format of the formal letter
Learn the format in 7 points, learn it by heart with tips given in the brackets. Sender’s address
- Receiver's address
- Date (Write month in words)
- Subject (write in 5 - 6 words, you can start the subject with Regarding/Requesting ….ing)
- Salutation/Greeting (Respected Sir/Madam or Dear Sir/Madam)
- Body of the letter (Write into three paragraphs: First Introduction, second information, and third conclusion)
- Closing (Yours faithfully/obediently/sincerely. Yours ‘Y’ must be in capital letter without apostrophe mark ’ and signature)
Formal Letter:
Friends, now let's learn the informal letter.
Informal letter compared to a formal letter is easy to write. I would like to suggest that if there are options to write a letter in the examination, write a formal letter in the examination, because it helps to score good marks.
Informal Letter:
- Sender’s address (writer’s address)
- Date (month must be written in words)
- Salutation (Dear papa/mummy/brother/sister/friend/Rohit/Rohini)
- Body of the letter (three paragraphs 1st introduction 2nd main content and 3rd conclusion)
- Closing (Yours lovingly, ‘Y’ must be in capital ‘s’ without apostrophe)
