What are English Language Proficiency Exams?
Top English Language Proficiency Exams for Study, Work, and Immigration:
This Test is accepted in the UK, Australia, Canada,
and other countries. It measures your English ability in Listening, Reading,
Writing, and Speaking. There are two purposes of the Test: Academic - to study
in a university. and General for immigration or work. Band score (Marks) is 0
to 9.
There is no pass or fail result. It depends on the purpose of going
abroad. The score range is 0 to 9 Bands. Generally, a minimum of 6.0 to 7.5 Band is accepted for studying in universities. For working in the UK, Canada, 6.0 to 7.0
is accepted.
ii) TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language):
Mostly accepted in the USA and Canada. Similar to
IELTS, it tests Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. The score range is 0
to 120. Taken online (iBT). Generally accepted score to study in Universities
is 70 to 100+. Each section, Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, is 0 to
30.

meaning skills are tested together, like speaking and writing combined.
It is a newer, quicker, and cheaper option for many
universities. Conducted online at home. Tests reading, writing, speaking, and
listening in just about 1 hour.
2) For Immigration (to settle or work abroad):
Required by countries like Canada, Australia, the
UK for immigration or PR (Permanent Residency). It tests basic communication
skills in English used in daily life and the workplace.
It is used mainly for Canadian PR and citizenship.
This test is entirely computer-based. It assesses functional English for daily
life.
For healthcare professionals: doctors, nurses,
dentists, etc.. It is for the medical field, so the reading and speaking tasks
are based on real healthcare scenarios.
This Test is mainly for job-related English,
especially in business or office environments. Common in Asian countries.
Employers use it to assess your ability to use English at work.
This Exam includes not only English but also math
and reasoning. The English section tests vocabulary and reading comprehension.
It is needed for Master’s and PhD programs.
ii) GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test):
This Test is required for MBA or business school.
It tests English, math, and logic. The English section includes grammar,
reasoning, and essay writing.
This Exam is for kids aged 7–12. Fun and simple way
to learn English.
